Maori Language Week

Māori Language Week

Today I am going to be telling you about Maori Language Week here at Wainui Beach School.

We as a school are going to try to use as much Maori this week. Teachers will be trying to give us feedback on our learning in Maori. Today the whole of Moana and Nui got together and we sang our school Waiata and filmed it and put it on the Maori language week website.

Our teachers shared a site onto the Moana hub and we had to select the written word and match it to the wons that are in Maori. Here is the link to the game if you want to play it...Maori week game

Our teacher has already taught us some Maori including Kia Kaha which means be strong.  So remember to use as many Maori words as possible because this only comes once a year.

I believe that we should be using more Maori in school and I am looking forward to learning more Maori. We have the Kapa Haka festival in term four and I am looking forward to it because I have been practicing my poi.

I would like to learn how to weave, play traditional Maori stick games, and have a hangi.

What are you doing for Maori language week?

What would you like to do?

Last Thursday we had a shared kai because it was Koka Terri's last day, everyone brings something sweet or savory Naia brought fruit kebabs and Alivia brought sausage rolls. We had the shared kai at 11.00 before morning tea.

At 10.45 some people were chosen to help setup the shared kai and exactly at 11.00 we started to dig in we were allowed to get one savory and one sweet and after that you were allowed seconds.

There was jelly, biscuits, chips and everything else the shared kai was so good!!!! After the shared kai hardly anyone ate there food because we were all stuffed.

Beach day

Kia ora my name is Lola and today in my blog I am going to be telling you about beach day.

On Monday we went down to the beach for PBL (Play, Base, Learning) and we got to make anything you want for 40 minutes.Alivia, Naia, and me all made a big as turtle.

We started with the base we kind of made a big circle and then dug around the outside once it was big enough we started to decorate. ALivia and me went to go get some flowers and Naia was making the head.

Once we got back from picking flowers Naia had done the head and she was moving onto the legs.  Alivia and I started to put flowers on it's head as a nice necklace. After we did some finishing touches we asked a teacher to come have a look at it and we were very proud of our work.
