Maori Language Week

Māori Language Week

Today I am going to be telling you about Maori Language Week here at Wainui Beach School.

We as a school are going to try to use as much Maori this week. Teachers will be trying to give us feedback on our learning in Maori. Today the whole of Moana and Nui got together and we sang our school Waiata and filmed it and put it on the Maori language week website.

Our teachers shared a site onto the Moana hub and we had to select the written word and match it to the wons that are in Maori. Here is the link to the game if you want to play it...Maori week game

Our teacher has already taught us some Maori including Kia Kaha which means be strong.  So remember to use as many Maori words as possible because this only comes once a year.

I believe that we should be using more Maori in school and I am looking forward to learning more Maori. We have the Kapa Haka festival in term four and I am looking forward to it because I have been practicing my poi.

I would like to learn how to weave, play traditional Maori stick games, and have a hangi.

What are you doing for Maori language week?

What would you like to do?
